Use Form I‑9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of every person hired to work in the United States. All U.S. employers must complete Form I‑9 for each new hire, including citizens and noncitizens. Both the employee and the employer (or the employer’s authorized representative) must complete the form.
On the form, the employee attests to their authorization to work and presents acceptable identity and employment‑authorization documents. The employer examines those original documents to determine whether they reasonably appear genuine and relate to the employee, then records the document details on the Form I‑9. The full list of acceptable documents is on the form. Employers must retain completed I‑9s for the required retention period and make them available to authorized government officials upon request.
The I‑9 contains three sections:
Section 1: Employee Information and Attestation
Section 2: Employer or Authorized Representative Review and Verification
Section 3: Reverification or Rehires
We serve as your authorized representative and complete Section 2 on your behalf, examining documents and ensuring the Form I‑9 is filled out correctly.
